Description

The SS Princess Sophia was a steel-built coastal passenger liner in the coastal service fleet of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). Along with the SS Princess Adelaide, the SS Princess Alice and the SS Princess Mary, the SS Princess Sophia was one of four sister ships built for the CPR during 1910 and 1911. On October 25, 1918, the Sophia sank with the loss of all aboard, some 343 or more people, after grounding on Vanderbilt Reef in Lynn Canal near Juneau, Alaska. The wreck of the Princess Sophia was the worst maritime accident in the history of British Columbia and Alaska.
This collection consists of proceedings of the 1919 inquiry conducted into the loss of the Canadian Pacific Steamship Princess Sophia.

Le SS Princess Sophia était un paquebot côtier bâti en acier qui faisait partie de la flotte côtière du Canadien Pacifique (CP). Avec le SS Princess Adelaide, le SS Princess Alice et le SS Princess Mary, le SS Princess Sophia était l'un des quatre navires jumeaux construits pour le CP en 1910 et 1911. Le 25 octobre 1818, le Princess Sophia échoua et coula à Vanderbilt Reef dans le Canal Lynn près de Juneau, en Alaska, entraînant la perte des quelque 343 personnes à bord. Le naufrage du Princess Sophia constitua la pire catastrophe maritime de l'histoire de la Colombie-Britannique et de l'Alaska.
Cette collection contient les procès-verbaux de l'enquête menée en 1919 relativement au naufrage du bateau à vapeur Princess Sophia, propriété du Canadien Pacifique.
