Description
Gustave Lamothe (1856 - 1922) was a lawyer and judge, and was a partner in a law firm belonging to François-Xavier-Anselme Trudel (1838 - 1890), the latter of whom was also a senator. Lamothe is described as being a conservative nationalist, and was the president of a conservative association in Montreal. He was a shareholder of the L'Étendard newspaper founded by Trudel; the paper published daily in Montreal between February 1883 and March 1893. Lamothe was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1880. He was appointed King's Counsel in 1893, President of the Montreal Bar Association in 1904, Judge of the Superior Court (Montreal) in September 1915 and Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench (Court of Appeal) in September 1918 until his death in 1922.
This collection consists of Lamothe's letterbook containing correspondence largely from the years 1886 to 1892.
