Description
Jules Mazarin (1602 - 1661), born Giulio Raimondo Mazzarino or Mazarini, was an Italian Catholic cardinal, diplomat, and politician, who served as the chief minister of France from 1642 until his death. Mazarin succeeded his mentor, Cardinal Richelieu. His personal library was the origin of the Bibliothèque Mazarine in Paris. This collection features the personal library of Cardinal Mazarin, who in 1661 bequeathed it to the College des Quatre-Nations. It is enriched by numerous manuscripts and deposits forfeited to the government archives.
This collection contains documentation on the history of Montreal, Aboriginals and New France.
