Amos Botsford was a native of Connecticut. With Samuel Cummings, Frederick Hauser and James Peters, he served as agent for the settlement of Loyalists in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. From 1785 until his death in 1812 he was a member of the New Brunswick Assembly, and its Speaker. His son William Botsford (1773-1864) was a member of the Assembly from 1812, Speaker and Solicitor General from 1817 until 1823, when he was named to the Supreme Court bench. He retired in 1854.
