Description
The "C" Series consists of records accumulated by the British forces stationed in Canada from 1759 until 1906, as well as sundry military records. Upon the Act of Union in 1707, the armed forces of England and Scotland were merged into the armed forces of the Kingdom of Great Britain. Between 1707 and 1914, British forces played a prominent role in notable conflicts including the Seven Years' War, the Napoleonic Wars and the Crimean War.
This collection is chiefly made up of muster rolls of British-Provincial units from the Central and Southern Commands, 1777-1783, and sundry order books containing copies of general, militia, garrison, district and regimental orders, 1764-1894. Also included are military records accumulated by the Claus and Freer families, 1786-1868, and miscellaneous establishment lists, 1757-1896.
