Letters and petitions addressed to the Governor-in-Chief from individuals were usually responded to on his behalf by the Secretaries. Matters relating to the civil administration of the province were handled by the Civil Secretary. This collection consists of the numbered correspondence files of the Civil Secretary for the Province of Canada. The years 1841-1867 are covered. It also includes indexes and registers compiled by the Secretary to provide both control over and access to the files.
