Description

The Trans-Canada Alliance of German Canadians was active from 1952 to the late 1970s. It was the first nationally recognized umbrella organization of German clubs and churches. It declared the cultivation of German traditions as its first objective, and it also supported and coordinated German-language instruction for children through a network of voluntary schools. In 1972, the organization’s membership peaked at 94 organizations with 20,000 active and 40,000 social members. In the late ‘70s, the organization was rocked by a leadership crisis and it exists today in name only.
This collection consists of minutes of meetings for this organization for the years 1957 to 1969.
L’organisation de la Trans-Canada Alliance of German Canadians fut active de 1952 jusqu’à la fin des années 1970. Elle était la première organisation reconnue à l’échelle nationale pour avoir chapeauté d’autres clubs et églises allemandes. Bien que son objectif premier ait été la sauvegarde des traditions germaniques, elle assurait aussi le soutien et la coordination de l’instruction en langue allemande pour les enfants par l’entremise d’un réseau d’écoles volontaires. En 1972, elle comptait 94 organisations avec 20,000 membres actifs et 40,000 membres inscrits. À la fin des années 1970, l’organisation fut secouée par une crise de leadership, si bien qu’aujourd’hui, seul son nom subsiste.
Cette collection contient les procès-verbaux des réunions tenues par cette organisation entre 1957 et 1969.
