Description

Sub-sub-series consists of returns for the 1931 Canadian census - also known as the Seventh Census of Canada. For the census of Canada, sub-sub-series consists of returns recorded on Forms 1A and 1B (for population). Sub-sub-series also consists of returns recorded on an additional population schedule specific for the census of the Northwest Territories, and, in some cases, of certain parts of the Yukon, the Eastern shore of Hudson Bay north of Great Whale River, and the Southern shore of Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay. This sub-sub-series is part of the Statistics Canada fonds.
La sous-sous-série comprend les résultats du recensement canadien de 1931, aussi appelé le septième recensement du Canada. Pour le recensement du Canada, la sous-sous-série est limitée aux déclarations enregistrées sur les formulaires 1A et 1B (pour la population). Textual (microform) (Paper) Finding aid 31-1 is the published "Catalogue of Census Returns on Microfilm, 1666-1891," which provides an alphabetical listing by place name within each province. The information in this published catalogue has mostly been incorporated into LAC's online Census reference guide, however the published catalogue still provides a means of deciphering how districts changed during those census years.
Textual (microform) (Paper) Finding aid 31-8 is a typed "Finding Aid Census 1881" consisting of three parts: 1. an index of census districts in alphabetical order, 2. an index of sub-districts in alphabetical order, 3. a shelf-list of microfilm, indicating on which reel the returns for a district or sub-district may be found, as well as any missing schedules. The information in this finding aid has since been incorporated into LAC's online Census reference guide.
