Description
Fonds consists of selections from the private papers of Lord Bathurst relating chiefly to the War of 1812 and British and American views of Anglo-American relations. Included are letters and memoranda on such questions as, John Caldwell's observations on Canadian trade, 1808, Patrick Langan's claim to Grand Isle, 1812, and Lord Selkirk's proposal to raise a volunteer force to attack the United States through the Hudson Bay and the North West, 1813.
Volumes: 1
Henry Bathurst, third Earl of Bathurst, held among other offices the position of President of the Board of Trade from 1807 to 1812. In 1812, he was appointed Secretary for War and the Colonies, a post he held until 1827.
