Description
Sir Robert Shore Milnes was born in England in 1754. After pursuing a military and political carreer, mostly in the United Kingdom, he was appointed lieutenant governor of Lower Canada in 1797. He was sworn into office in June 1799, and later that year, also became adminstrator of that province. He remained administrator until August 1805 and lieutenant governor until Nov. 1808.
The collection consists of an entry book containing despatches relating to crown lands and grants, the Jesuit estates, both Catholic and Protestant clergy and colonization, 1799-1805.
Sir Robert Shore Milnes est né en Angleterre en 1754. Après une carrière militaire et politique menée surtout au Royaume-Uni, il fut, en 1797, nommé lieutenant-gouverneur du Bas-Canada. Il fut assermenté en juin 1799 et, plus tard la même année, il devint aussi administrateur de cette province. Il conserva son poste d'administrateur jusqu'en août 1805 et celui de lieutenant-gouverneur jusqu'en novembre 1808.
La collection consiste en un livre d'inscriptions contenant des dépêches se rapportant aux terres de la Couronne et aux concessions, aux biens des Jésuites, au clergé tant catholique que protestant et à la colonisation, 1799-1805.
