Description
William Saint-Laurent, the son of Joseph Saint-Laurent and Flavie Dufresne, was born around 1845 and died in 1890 or so. After spending time in Quebec, he established a sales office between France and Canada. During the Franco-Prussian War, he became engaged in the arms trade and was subsequently an agent for various U.S. companies. His activities led him to visit different European countries, including the Ottoman Empire and Russia.
This collection consists of letters received, contracts for the sale of weapons, commissions, telegrams and so on. It contains a record of copies of letters (1870-1872), a passport to go to Russia (1879) and a notebook. One of the printed documents is called "The Sun Gas-Lamp Company, sole manufacturers of W. St. Lawrence's Patent Gas-Lamp for Illuminating General Purpose”, 1888. There are clipping from a St. Petersburg, Russia, newspaper from March 1881 and various documents.
