Description

Alexander John Ballantyne was a midshipman aboard the ships Victory, Landrail, Nile, Shannon, Rinaldo and Sphinx in the West Indies, North America and South America.
This collection consists of a logbook kept by Alexander John Ballantyne while at sea, illustrated with drawings of ships at sea, charts executed in pen and ink, watercolours and one photograph. There is also a letter from B. [Elizabeth] Ballantyne to her cousin, Jane [Roberton], concerning the preservation of her brother's holdings.
