The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), Canada's largest and most influential labour federation, was formed in 1956 by the merger of the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada (TLC) and the Canadian Congress of Labour (CCL). As of 2013, it represented the interests of over 3 million affiliated workers. The CLC is the umbrella organization for dozens of affiliated Canadian and international unions, as well as provincial federations of labour and regional labour councils.
The collection consists of files on the Canadian Maritime Union, the Seafarers' International Union of Canada, and other maritime transportation unions, pertaining to organizing, collective bargaining, raids, the Norris Commission, the Board of Trustees of the Maritime Transportation Unions, shipping companies, and other topics. The files contain correspondence, minutes, reports, constitutions, convention documents, briefs, print matter, financial records, and other material.
